Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible (and effective) to have a remote appointment using Zoom for example?
Yes, it is absolutely possible and for the time being necessary. All sessions are being conducted that way. It is very effective and whilst I miss the personal interaction with you, it is not necessary for hypnosis nor to the change-work, we will do together to be with me in person
Do I need to have an initial assessment consultation?
I ask all new clients to have this 45-minute session with me, yes. It is really important to get to know each other and the issues so that we can jointly agree on a course of action that will get you to where you need to be.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis has a number of definitions but essentially is a focused state of attention. See my Hypnotherapy in Central London for my explanation.
Will I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. You will remain in control the whole time and will always be able to come back to full awareness, move, scratch and react to emergency situations like a fire alarm.
Will I do anything that makes a fool of myself?
Some stage hypnotists have built a reputation for encouraging people to cluck like chickens in public. This is therapy and that will not happen. You will not do or say anything in hypnosis you do not want to. You will not do or say anything that goes against your moral or religious beliefs

What if I have an issue that is not listed on your website?
It is not possible to list everything that hypnotherapy can help with. You can email or call and we can talk through what the best approaches may be.
How do I know if I can be hypnotised?
Most people can go into hypnosis to varying depths. The most important thing is that you come with 2 things: an open mind; and a commitment to the process
How long is each session?
I talk in terms of sessions and not hours because every client is different. For some, a session may be just an hour. For others, it may be an hour and a half. Some people experiencing anxiety or low mood may find that half an hour is all they can manage. You should allow a good hour and a half when planning to see me.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies from client to client. For simple behavioural issues, it might only take up to 3 sessions. For more complex issues it can be more. Some people also find they need to work slower to manage the changes they are experiencing
Will I remember everything?
You are in control the whole time and you will remember everything you need to but it varies from person to person. When you drive to work you may not remember every section of the journey, but you are conscious and in control the whole time.
Do you offer online sessions for example via Zoom?
Yes. In fact, many clients prefer it that way.
How can I pay?
You can pay in cash or by card. I take payment usually before the session. You may want to look over the cancellation policy.
What if I need to cancel?
Call me straight away. Things happen from time to time but there is a charge for late cancellation. See the cancellation policy.
Is everything I tell you confidential?
Everything leading to the session, in the session and afterwards is confidential. I will not even acknowledge you in the street unless you say hello to me. There are some legal exceptions where I may be compelled by a court to give relevant case notes however. For more details on this, please see the Privacy Notice
What notes do you take and how secure are they?
I do take detailed notes in writing and on a computer. This is to help plan the best course of treatment for the session and future sessions. I may also ask you to supply details on a form before you come to the session and I will take hand written notes during the session. For more details on this, please see the Privacy Notice.
I have a question that is not covered here
